Students at Detroit Catholic Central High School in Novi will see six new faculty and staff members in classrooms and the counseling office when the 2026-2027 school year begins, the school announced Monday, Aug. 10.
The hires span theology, English, math, business, counseling and physical education/social studies:
- Mary Catherine Costello — Theology
- William Edwards — English
- Linda Hein — Math
- Kristi Potts — Business
- Brian Ranger — Counselor
- Greg Souldourian — Physical Education/Social Studies
The counselor position was previously held by Alan Barker, Catholic Central's longest-serving employee and Dean of the Faculty, who died unexpectedly on June 27 after 42 years at the school. Barker was one year from retirement. He held a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Northern Michigan University and a master's in guidance and counseling from Eastern Michigan University, and in 2011 the Engineering Society of Detroit named him Metropolitan Detroit Science Fair Teacher of the Year.
"Alan will be missed for his many historical CC recollections and his willingness to fulfill any task requested of him," Fr. Patrick Fulton, CSB, said in a June 30 tribute published by the school. "We are grateful for the many generations of Shamrocks he has served."
Fulton himself is returning to Catholic Central for 2026-2027 as VP of Mission & Spirituality, adding to the school's leadership changes heading into fall.
The staffing moves come as Catholic Central expands its physical footprint. The Novi Planning Commission unanimously approved a 12,700-square-foot, two-story classroom addition in January, adding six classrooms and breakout learning spaces to the main building on Wixom Road. The school said enrollment would not increase as a result.
Overseeing the recruitment process is Aimee Carroll, who joined Catholic Central in December 2025 as Head of Human Resources after more than 20 years in HR, including leading Global Talent Management at Domino's.
New Student Orientation is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 14.
