Northville won a 10-7 road game at Canton on Sept. 3, improving to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in Kensington Lakes Activities Association play.
The three-point margin was the tightest of the Mustangs' young season. Northville opened 2026 with a 38-31 double-overtime victory over Lake Orion, entering Week 2 ranked No. 2 in The Detroit News West zone poll. No individual stats from the Canton game were immediately available.
Senior running back Danny O'Neil, who rushed for 122 yards in the opener, led a Northville ground attack that ranked among the state's best through Week 1, according to MaxPreps state statistical leaders.
Novi drops to 0-2
Novi fell 26-14 to Salem on Sept. 3 in another KLAA matchup, according to final scores compiled by SI. The Wildcats are 0-2. They have been outscored 81-36 through two weeks after a 55-22 loss to Traverse City Central in the opener.
No. 1 CC hosts Davison at 7 p.m. Sept. 4
Detroit Catholic Central, ranked No. 1 in Michigan by MaxPreps, hosts Davison at Fr. Richard Elmer Stadium, known as The Elm, on Friday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m. SI listed the matchup as No. 1 Catholic Central against No. 20 Davison.
The Shamrocks carry a 15-game winning streak into the contest. Catholic Central went 14-0 in 2025, beating Detroit Cass Tech in the Division 1 state championship game at Ford Field, and opened this season with a 55-0 rout of Clinton Township Chippewa Valley on Aug. 27.
Senior quarterback Duke Banta went 6-for-8 for 94 yards and two touchdowns in that opener. Senior cornerback Gideon Gash, a 6-foot-4 Texas Tech commit, scored on a 48-yard punt return and made plays throughout Catholic Central's passing game. Senior linebacker Jalen Montlouis, committed to Grand Valley State, added seven tackles and two touchdowns.
"These guys really want their own identity," head coach Justin Cessante said after the Aug. 27 win over Chippewa Valley. "We wanted to set the tone for the season and they sure did."
Davison enters at 1-0 but is retooling. The Detroit News preseason top 25 noted the Cardinals return just three offensive starters and four on defense.
Catholic Central's next home game after the Davison matchup is Sept. 11 against Windsor Holy Names at 7 p.m.
