Lauren Elek, a 23-year veteran educator who won Assistant Principal of the Year in her Florida district, will lead Amerman Elementary School when Northville students return this fall.
Northville Public Schools' Board of Education approved Elek's hiring, the district announced Wednesday Aug. 26, making Elek the new principal of the kindergarten-through-fifth-grade school that serves 504 students. She starts this fall.
Elek spent 13 years in school administration at Charlotte County Public Schools in Florida, most recently as a principal, before taking the Amerman job, the district said.
"I'm excited to become part of Northville Public Schools and join the Amerman family," Elek said. "I'm looking forward to getting to know our students, staff, and families, building strong relationships, and working together to continue Amerman's tradition of excellence."
She's credited with lifting state letter grades at two Florida schools, from a C to an A at Meadow Park Elementary and a B to an A at Sallie Jones Elementary, while cutting discipline referrals by nearly a third at Sallie Jones after building a schoolwide behavior-support program that later earned the school national recognition.
Assistant Superintendent Emily Pohlonski said the district was drawn to Elek's experience leading multiple schools and her "strong commitment to partnering collaboratively with the Amerman community."
Blue Ribbon school
Amerman earned its second Michigan Blue Ribbon School designation from the Michigan Department of Education in 2025, according to Wayne RESA board minutes. The honor recognized the school for the second time, placing Elek at the head of one of the state's recognized elementary programs.
Broader leadership changes
Elek is not the only new administrator joining the district. Northville Public Schools also hired Jessica M. Fisher as the new ninth-grade-level assistant principal at Northville High School, adding a second leadership appointment ahead of the 2026-27 school year.
The two hires come as the district rolls out its Building Tomorrow Together strategic plan, announced Aug. 3. Full details of the plan's goals and timeline have not been released.

Amerman Elementary is one of 10 schools in Northville Public Schools, a district of approximately 7,022 students. Elek will be the point of contact for the school's 504 families once the 2026-27 year begins.
