Novi’s two new fire stations have a proposed Oct. 21 groundbreaking date, according to a construction proposal prepared for the Oct. 12 City Council meeting.
Plante Moran Realpoint, the city’s project advisor, prepared design development updates for Fire Stations No. 2 and No. 3 and an update on preliminary plans for the new Public Safety Headquarters.
The committee presentation describes current fire station estimates as within budget and groundbreaking as on track for the fourth quarter of 2026.
The presentation attributes construction-cost pressure to the Iran war, tariffs and data center projects. It says Novi established the project budget in March 2025.
The fire stations entered the design development phase in June, according to the presentation’s design schedule.
Construction contract and timeline
The Oct. 12 City Council agenda listed a proposed $9,830,309 authorization for sitework and structural components at both stations. That includes $9,362,199 for Christman and $468,110 in city contingency.
The proposed work covers site preparation and structural components. Other building systems and finishes would be bid separately.
Christman required acceptance by Oct. 15 to maintain its proposed pricing.
The proposed schedule calls for foundation work to begin Dec. 4, structural steel work to start March 16, 2027, and substantial completion on Jan. 28, 2028.
What’s next
A site plan package submitted Sept. 23 was under city review, according to the committee presentation. The City Council is scheduled to receive the design development presentation Oct. 26, with 90% construction documents expected in late January 2027.
The inspected documents establish a recommended contract and proposed schedule, rather than a completed council approval.
