Novi High School junior Rahul Prasanna will spend the next two years providing a student voice on issues affecting Michigan high school athletics after being named to the Michigan High School Athletic Association's Student Advisory Council for 2026-27.

Prasanna was featured Aug. 26 in the MHSAA’s 2026-27 Student Advisory Council belief statement and video, months after the association announced his selection in May. He is the second Novi student to serve on the SAC. Abigail Pheiffer represented the school on the 2019-20 council.

The 16-member body advises the MHSAA on issues affecting high school athletics and plays an operational role at state championship events. Members meet roughly eight times per school year, plus a 24-hour leadership camp. Their work centers on what the MHSAA calls the "4 S's" of educational athletics: scholarship, sportsmanship, safety and sensible scope of athletic programs, plus a fifth S, student leadership.

During the 2025-26 school year, council members presented championship trophies at Finals events, led sessions at four Sportsmanship Summits and gave feedback to the MHSAA Representative Council on proposed rule changes. They also provided behind-the-scenes social media coverage at state tournaments and appeared in public service announcement videos.

Prasanna already appears in the SAC's sportsmanship video released for the start of the 2026-27 school year.

Nominations come from MHSAA member schools. The new class combined has participated in 12 MHSAA sports, and six of the eight appointees are the first SAC representatives from their respective schools.

With Prasanna's addition, the council has now drawn members from 155 schools across 53 leagues and independent schools since its founding in 2006-07. The MHSAA oversees athletics for more than 1,500 public and private schools statewide, with tournaments attracting more than 1.4 million spectators annually.
