For $25 and a wagon ride, Novi residents can clip their own summer bouquet straight from the fields at MSU Extension Tollgate Farm starting Friday, Aug. 7.

The Tollgate U-Pick Flower Experience runs four consecutive Fridays in August — Aug. 7, 14, 21 and 28 — from 5 to 7 p.m. at the farm, 28115 Meadowbrook Rd., between 12 Mile and 13 Mile roads. The cost is $25 per vase, according to MSU Extension's Tollgate page.

Each evening begins with a wagon ride out to the flower fields. Staff teach visitors about the varieties grown at Tollgate and share tips on cutting stems for longer-lasting arrangements. Then participants grab pruners, fan out through the rows and fill a vase with whatever catches their eye.

Guests must arrive by 6:30 p.m. to have enough harvesting time.

The farm described the event as a relaxing summer evening surrounded by blooms and fresh air on more than 100 acres that include woods, a pond, an arboretum and 20 demonstration gardens. Additional dates beyond Aug. 28 may be added depending on flower availability.
