Wayne County health inspectors cited at least two Northville restaurants for food safety violations, including improper food temperatures, missing hair restraints, and problems with sanitizer, according to a Detroit News report published Wednesday, July 15.

Bowl Appetit, a Mediterranean bowl restaurant at 21122 Haggerty Rd., and Northville Sports Den were among the establishments flagged. Inspectors also documented issues with cooling procedures, date-marking, plumbing and dishwashing systems at Northville locations, the report said.

Many of the violations were corrected on-site during the inspection visits.

Improper temperatures are a priority violation

Improper food temperatures are classified as a "priority item" under Wayne County's inspection system because out-of-range storage can allow harmful bacteria to grow. The county requires hot foods held at 135 degrees Fahrenheit or above and cold foods at 41 degrees or below.

Wayne County food inspectors conduct unannounced visits to restaurants, schools, festivals, and other establishments that serve food to the public.

Northville Sports Den has a history of violations

This is not the first time Northville Sports Den has been cited. In August 2018, inspectors found mold growing inside the restaurant's ice machine, ice contamination from a leaking freezer ceiling, and cold foods stored well above the required 41-degree maximum. Pepperoni was measured at 49 degrees, cheese at 51 degrees, and cut lettuce at 50 degrees during that inspection, according to a Hometown Life report at the time.

Those 2018 violations were corrected on-site and a follow-up inspection was ordered. It is unclear whether the restaurant has operated under the same management since then.

Wayne County also cited Northville restaurants for mold and potentially hazardous food storage between March and June 2025, according to a separate Detroit News report from June 10, 2025. The specific restaurants named in that earlier round were not available from accessible sources.
