Michigan’s first Dick’s House of Sport is open at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi, occupying part of the former Sears building, which closed in 2019.

The store opened to the public in late October, WXYZ reported. A three-day grand opening celebration runs Friday, Nov. 6, through Sunday, Nov. 8, with appearances by Chris Webber and Amon-Ra St. Brown on Friday and Bryce Underwood on Sunday, according to the retailer’s official opening schedule.

Webber’s ribbon-cutting appearance begins at 8:45 a.m. Friday. St. Brown is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, and Underwood from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday.

St. Brown’s and Underwood’s appearances require wristbands distributed in limited quantities when the store opens that day. Underwood’s appearance is photos only. Webber’s ribbon cutting does not require a wristband and will not include autographs. Times and appearances may change.

The location at 27600 Twelve Oaks Mall Road occupies about 100,000 square feet, according to WXYZ. Dick’s Sporting Goods occupies the lower level of the former Sears building, according to the city of Novi’s economic development office.

Inside, shoppers will find golf simulators, a rock wall and a batting cage. Outside, there is a turf field and a track. In a May 29, 2025, update, the city said Dick’s had submitted a Special Land Use Permit request covering about 17.79 acres east of Novi Road and south of Twelve Mile Road for the outdoor facilities.

The store also houses a Collectors Clubhouse with trading cards and autographed memorabilia, plus a House of Cleats display, WXYZ reported. Services include golf, bike, racquet, glove and skate work.

Grand opening weekend will feature giveaways and gear customization. The first 100 adults in line each morning can receive a mystery gift card. The first 100 children in line can receive a soccer ball, subject to the retailer’s eligibility rules and available supplies. Some customization activities require a purchase.

Dick’s House of Sport is an experiential offshoot of Dick’s Sporting Goods that features playing surfaces and areas for trying out merchandise, according to the retailer’s description. Brian Bacik, vice president of real estate development for Dick’s, said in a statement that each location is tailored to its local market and serves as a destination for programming and sports, DBusiness reported.

The Novi store is not the only Michigan expansion on Dick’s radar. DBusiness reported in October that a second House of Sport location is planned for The Mall at Partridge Creek in Clinton Township, though no opening date had been announced.

The former Sears space at Twelve Oaks is being divided among three tenants. Round1 Bowling and Arcade and European clothing retailer Primark are also moving in, according to the city of Novi’s economic development office. Twelve Oaks Mall is owned by Simon Property Group.

Scott Lofton, general manager at Twelve Oaks, told the Detroit Free Press in a September report that the new additions reflect the mall’s focus on in-person shopping experiences.

The store’s listed hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
