Lane closures begin August 3 on 12 Mile Road between Novi Road and Haggerty Road, a stretch carrying up to 30,000 vehicles daily, as the Road Commission for Oakland County starts a repaving project expected to last through mid-November.

One lane will remain open in each direction, and business access will be maintained, according to RCOC. The work includes removing existing pavement, laying new asphalt, installing ADA-compliant crosswalks and pedestrian signals, upgrading SMART bus stops, and repairing curbs and gutters.

The segment is part of a larger $12 million, two-year project stretching 5.5 miles from Novi Road to Farmington Road, funded by federal dollars and contributions from RCOC, the cities of Farmington Hills and Novi, and Oakland County's Tri-Party Program. Cadillac Asphalt of Farmington Hills is the contractor. A second phase covering Haggerty Road to Drake Road will begin in spring 2027.

Drivers who use 12 Mile to reach businesses along the Haggerty Road corridor should expect single-lane traffic in both directions through at least mid-November.

Meanwhile, northbound Novi Road between 8 Mile Road and 9 Mile Road has been closed since March 30 for Phase 3 of a separate $6.9 million resurfacing project. Southbound traffic remains open. As of July 8, utility obstructions had been cleared and traffic shifted to the newly paved southbound lanes while crews work on the northbound side, according to the City of Novi's project page.

The northbound detour routes drivers along 8 Mile Road to Beck Road to 10 Mile Road, then back to Novi Road. Dan's Excavating of Shelby Township is the contractor. The project adds a continuous center left-turn lane, two northbound lanes and one southbound lane between the Rouge River/Allen Drive and 9 Mile Road, new storm sewers, and HAWK pedestrian-crossing beacons north of Galway Drive. This section of Novi Road carries about 13,700 vehicles daily, according to RCOC.

RCOC has previously cited a late-summer completion target for the Novi Road work, though the City of Novi's project page, updated July 8, lists November 2026.
