Several Northville Township polling places have moved for the Aug. 4 primary, and voters who don't check their assignment before Tuesday could end up at the wrong school.

The township permanently consolidated its precincts from 12 to 10, eliminating Moraine Elementary as a polling location. Voters who previously cast ballots at Moraine will now vote at Ridgewood Elementary. The township said in a Facebook post that the consolidation will reduce election costs and improve efficiency.

On top of that permanent change, construction projects at Northville Public Schools have forced three temporary relocations for Tuesday, Aug. 4:

  • Precincts 3 & 4 (normally at Northville High School) → Township Hall, 44405 Six Mile Road
  • Precincts 8 & 9 (normally at Silver Springs Elementary) → Essential Services Complex, 40911 Seven Mile Road
  • Precincts 7 & 10 (normally at Meads Mill Middle School) → Winchester Elementary, 16141 Winchester Drive

The township mailed letters to affected voters earlier this year, but anyone unsure of their assignment can call the Clerk's Office at (248) 348-5825 or email [email protected].

Early voting open through Sunday

Residents who want to skip the Election Day shuffle can vote early at Township Hall, 44405 Six Mile Road, through Sunday, Aug. 2, according to township election information posted on Patch. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Saturday, Aug. 1, has different hours: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with extended services including same-day voter registration and absentee ballot pickup.

On Election Day, Tuesday, Aug. 4, polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Anyone in line by 8 p.m. has the right to vote.

What's on the ballot

Township voters will decide two major questions. Northville Public Schools is asking voters to approve a 20-mill operating millage replacement covering 2027 through 2036. The levy applies only to non-homestead properties like businesses, rentals and second homes; primary residences are exempt. If voters reject it, the district estimates it would lose roughly $11.8 million a year, about 11.3% of its operating budget.

Superintendent RJ Webber told the Oakland Press on July 13 that the shortfall "would mean the very real potential of class sizes going up significantly, services being cut."

A separate Northville Township millage renewal for public safety, parks, senior and youth services, and general operations is also on the ballot, according to CBS Detroit. The renewal's mill rate was not listed in available public records.

Polls close at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4. Voters can verify their precinct assignment at the Township Clerk's Office or at michigan.gov/vote.
