Novi's Diwali Fest takes place at the Civic Center on Nov. 5, with a lamp lighting ceremony, cultural performances, food and fireworks planned across a three-hour evening celebration.
The event runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., according to the city's Diwali Fest page. The city is billing it as a celebration of "lights, culture and community."
Here is the evening's schedule, per the city's official flyer:
- 5:30 p.m. — Food, vendors, performances and more
- 5:45 p.m. — Lamp lighting ceremony by the mayor of Novi
- 6:30 p.m. — Cultural performances, with an opening dance by the City of Novi "Leaders of Light"
- 8:15 p.m. — Fireworks
Recreation Supervisor Jenneva Kayser told the city's Cultural Arts Committee at its Aug. 20 meeting that planning included two outdoor dining tents, restaurants set up outside, craft vendors in the Atrium and an indoor stage for entertainment. A photo booth will occupy the Activities Room, and the art gallery display will be moved upstairs for viewing, according to committee minutes.
Kayser said at that meeting that about $7,500 had been received in sponsorship. The committee planned to seek private donations through the Novi Parks Foundation.
