Novi voters will receive absent voter ballots starting Sept. 24 for the Nov. 3 general election, giving about five weeks to mark and return them.
The City of Novi announced the mailing date on X on Tuesday, Sept. 8. The city urged voters who plan to travel during that period to contact the clerk's office with a temporary address so the ballot can be sent directly to them.
Sept. 24 is 40 days before Election Day, the earliest date Michigan law allows clerks to distribute absentee ballots, according to the Michigan Secretary of State's office.
How to request a ballot
Voters must be registered to receive an absent voter ballot. Requests must reach the Novi City Clerk by 5 p.m. the Friday before the election, according to the city's elections page. Residents can apply online through the Michigan Voter Information Center, call the clerk's office at 248-347-0456, or visit the second floor of the Novi Civic Center at 45175 Ten Mile Road.
Completed ballots must be returned by 8 p.m. on Nov. 3 to be counted. Drop boxes are available at the Civic Center, Lakeshore Park at 601 S. Lake Drive, Fire Station No. 3 at 42785 Nine Mile Road and Fire Station No. 4 at 49375 W. 10 Mile Road.
Michigan voters can also join a permanent absentee ballot list. Their local clerk then automatically mails them a ballot for every election.
Early voting and what's on the ballot
The Novi Civic Center will serve as an early voting site for voters in the City of Novi, Novi Township and the City of Northville. In-person early voting runs Oct. 24 through Nov. 1, with hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day except Oct. 29, when the site is open noon to 8 p.m.
Novi voters will also decide a capital improvements millage on the Nov. 3 ballot. The proposal would authorize 1.0 mill for capital projects over 10 years, starting with the July 2027 levy. If approved, the millage is estimated to collect $5,412,997 in its first year.
