Drivers on Novi Road between 10 Mile Road and Grand River Avenue will lose a lane in each direction starting Monday, Aug. 17, when the Road Commission for Oakland County begins maintenance on the bridge over the CSX railroad tracks.

The bridge won't close entirely.

The work is part of a $1.07 million RCOC project covering seven bridges across Oakland County. The Novi Road bridge, located just south of the Main Street/Bond Street intersection, is first up. About 12,790 vehicles cross that stretch daily.

Crews will repair the concrete deck and joints, fix sidewalks and bridge approach pavement, apply an epoxy overlay and repaint lane markings. One lane will stay open in each direction throughout, but traffic will shift between inside and outside lanes depending on the construction stage. The city of Novi's project page warns motorists to expect delays from trucks and equipment entering and leaving the work zone.

C.A. Hull Co. of Commerce Township, Michigan's largest bridge builder, is the contractor. RCOC is funding the project and says the maintenance will extend the bridge's service life and head off costlier rehabilitation later. The project was originally planned for summer 2025 but was postponed; the contract was awarded July 28.

Work on the Novi Road bridge is expected to wrap up in late September.

The project adds to an already busy construction season on Novi Road. Northbound lanes between 8 Mile and 9 Mile remain closed for a separate $6.9 million reconstruction, and as we reported July 24, the 12 Mile Road repaving between Novi Road and Haggerty Road is also underway.
