Novi High School’s Alex Abler announced Wednesday, Oct. 28, that he has committed to play Division I baseball at the University of Massachusetts.
Abler, a class of 2027 right-handed pitcher and outfielder, shared the news on his X account. The Novi baseball program congratulated him Oct. 29.
“Beyond blessed to announce my commitment to play D1 baseball and continue my academic career at @UMassBaseball!” Abler wrote. He thanked his family, coaches, teammates and teachers.
Abler also served as a Novi football captain this fall. The football program’s Oct. 29 congratulatory post identified him as one of its captains and noted that his baseball commitment followed football season.
Scouting report highlights pitching
Prep Baseball Michigan described Abler as a 6-foot-5, 190-pound right-hander whose fastball reached 91 mph and typically registered in the upper 80s last summer. The scouting outlet also reported that he used five pitches.
Abler plays for a Novi baseball program that won the Division 1 state championship in June 2023, according to the Michigan High School Athletic Association.
MaxPreps lists Novi’s 2026 league record at 10-4, placing the Wildcats second in their league standings. The site lists Rick Green as head coach.
