Novi Community School District will receive $610,351 in state-funded adult education grants for the 2026-27 school year, an increase of about $60,000 over its 2025-26 allocation.

The Wayne County Regional Educational Service Agency (Wayne RESA) board approved the grants at its Wednesday, Sept. 9, meeting. The funds are part of a $15.7 million package distributed to 24 educational entities across the tri-county region.

The money comes from Section 107 of the State School Aid Act, administered through the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. It is restricted to adult education programs, including Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language classes, high school equivalency test preparation and high school completion programs. Participants must be at least 18 years old and either lack a high school diploma or need English language instruction, according to state program requirements.

Novi's allocation grew from $549,892 in 2025-26 to $610,351 in 2026-27. The overall Region 10 pool also increased, rising from about $11.9 million in 2025-26 to $15.7 million. Region 10, which covers Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties, received the largest share of the $42.5 million allocated statewide.

Northville Public Schools does not appear among the 24 Section 107 recipients. The district did receive $14,610 in Great Start Readiness Program Round 3 start-up funding at the same meeting.

Among nearby districts, Plymouth-Canton Community Schools received $493,884 and Walled Lake Consolidated Schools received $317,567. The largest single allocation in the region went to Dearborn City School District at about $2.5 million, followed by Detroit Public Schools Community District at about $1.4 million.

The board also approved a separate pool of deferred Section 107 funds totaling about $1.8 million for the same 2026-27 period. Novi received $70,583 from that deferred pool.

Wayne RESA serves as the fiscal agent for Region 10 adult education programs and may use no more than 5% of the total allocation for administrative costs. All items were approved on the consent agenda.
