The City of Novi needs residents to help run its Tuesday, Nov. 3 general election and is willing to pay up to $300 a day for the work.

The city posted a recruitment call on X on Monday, Sept. 28, seeking Election Inspectors (also called Election Workers) to staff Novi's 24 precincts on Election Day. No prior election experience is required, and training is paid.

Precinct chairs earn $300 per day, co-chairs earn $270 and precinct workers earn $240, according to the city's Election Workers page. Workers at the Absentee Voter Counting Board (AVCB) at the Novi Civic Center are paid hourly: $20 for chairs, $18 for co-chairs and $16 for workers. Training pays $20 per session.

The job runs long. Precinct and Poll Workers alike report at 6 a.m. and stay until roughly 10 p.m. Student Election Workers get a shorter option instead: a morning shift from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. or an evening shift from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Who can apply

Applicants must be U.S. citizens registered to vote in Michigan with no felony or election-crime convictions. Candidates for office, election challengers and their immediate family members are not eligible. High school students at least 16 years old may apply if they meet voter registration requirements other than age.

What's on the ballot

Novi voters face five proposals on Nov. 3, including a local capital improvements millage that would levy 1.0 mill for 10 years to replace an expiring millage. The city's Capital Improvements Millage page estimates the levy would collect about $5.4 million in its first year if approved, with funds going toward parks, facilities, pathways and equipment such as fire trucks.

Two statewide proposals also appear on the ballot: one on whether to hold a constitutional convention and another on campaign finance. Two countywide Oakland County authority millages round out the list, covering the zoo and a regional public history museum. As we reported Monday, Sept. 28, the museum millage would affect Novi and Northville residents.
