Detroit Catholic Central holds the No. 1 spot in the Associated Press Division 1 football poll released Tuesday, Sept. 22. Northville sits at No. 9, keeping both area programs unbeaten at 4-0.

The Shamrocks collected all five first-place votes and 50 total points for the second straight week, according to The Oakland Press. Catholic Central shut out Warren De La Salle 53-0 on Sept. 18, extending what MLive reported as an 18-game winning streak for the reigning Division 1 state champions.

Texas Tech commit Gideon Gash delivered three touchdowns in the De La Salle blowout, returning an interception and two punts for scores, per MLive. Gash also scored on a 45-yard punt return in Catholic Central's 55-0 season-opening win over Chippewa Valley on Aug. 27, according to the Detroit Free Press.

"Gideon is obviously a weapon," head coach Justin Cessante told the Free Press after that Aug. 27 opener.

Catholic Central's last loss came Sept. 22, 2023, a 14-7 defeat to De La Salle.

Northville remained at No. 9 but saw its point total dip from 15 to 10 after beating rival Novi 52-7 on Sept. 18. The Oakland Press noted the Mustangs dominated on the ground and stifled Novi's rushing attack in the lopsided win.

All 10 ranked teams are unbeaten. Detroit Cass Tech (4-0) sits at No. 2 with 45 points, followed by East Kentwood (35), Saline (32) and Howell (31). Clarkston and Grand Blanc are tied at No. 6 with 22 points each. Romeo is eighth with 17, and Oxford rounds out the top 10 with five points.

The Shamrocks travel to Toledo St. John's Jesuit (2-2) in Week 5. Northville heads to Canton to face Plymouth (3-1) on Friday, Sept. 25, in a KLAA Black division matchup. The Oakland Press reported that wins over Plymouth and Dearborn Fordson could set up a showdown at Belleville for the KLAA Black title.
