Northville's girls golf team shot a 142 on Wednesday, Sept. 16, breaking the program's nine-hole team record by a stroke.

The two-under-par round topped the previous mark of 143, set Sept. 12, 2025, against Brighton. That round had been called a school record "for all courses" by the NHS Girls Golf account on X. Cam Baker shot a 33 to set an individual nine-hole record in that match.

Northville Athletics announced the new record on X.

The record adds to what has already been a strong fall for the Mustangs. Northville entered the week ranked No. 2 in the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association (MIGCA) Division 1 poll, behind Rochester Adams, according to The Oakland Press. The Mustangs opened the season ranked No. 1 by MLive.

Head coach Kate Schultz's squad is chasing a third straight MHSAA Division 1 state championship. Northville won back-to-back titles in 2024 and 2025. That gives the program six championships in eight years. The Mustangs beat runner-up Macomb Dakota by 29 strokes at The Meadows at Grand Valley State in Allendale to claim the 2025 crown on Oct. 18, 2025, according to the MHSAA.

The 2025 title team featured three standout individual performers. Naaz Gill finished fourth at the state finals with a 154. McKenzie Stevens and Cam Baker tied for seventh at 158 each.

Schultz, herself a Division 1 finals medalist as a Northville senior in 2002, has preached relentless effort throughout the program's dynasty run.

"We always tell the girls to play like we're five shots behind," Schultz said after the 2025 state championship in October. "We tell them not to take the pedal off the metal, that every shot counts."
