Novi residents now have a direct say in how the city spends money, builds roads, and manages growth through 2050.

The City of Novi announced Monday, August 3 the launch of its Novi 2050 Community Priorities Survey, asking residents to weigh in on five areas: infrastructure and facilities, mobility and transportation, responsive and adaptive services, long-term funding, and environmental sustainability. The survey is available at cityofnovi.org/novi2050.

The survey comes as Novi is approximately 91% built out, according to materials from the City Council's January 2026 goal-setting session, meaning future planning hinges on redevelopment and service quality rather than new construction on open land. With more than 66,000 residents, the choices made now will shape budgets and capital projects through 2050.

City Manager Victor Cardenas identified the Novi 2050 strategic plan as a formal City Council goal in his FY 2024-25 budget message, calling it a roadmap for the city's key priorities and objectives.

Mayor Pro Tem Casey signaled in January how much weight the plan would carry. At the City Council's January 10 goal-setting session, she said she was deliberately holding off on setting specific strategic goals because she expected the Novi 2050 process to drive those priorities based on what residents want.

"They will be talking with residents and businesses to come up with strategic objectives, each of which will have a series of goals over the years to help the city get from this year to 2050," Casey said at that January session.

The survey is the latest step in a planning process that began in January 2026 and runs through five phases. The city held a community goal-setting workshop on June 24 at the Novi Police Training Center and has gathered input through questionnaires and pop-up events throughout the year.

The plan is now in its "Drafting the Plan" phase, which runs through October. A public reveal and community celebration is scheduled for October 2026.
