Novi's Olde Orchard Street is restricted to southbound-only traffic as the city begins concrete repairs between Grand River Avenue and 10 Mile Road.

The City of Novi lists Sept. 15 as the project start date on its Better Roads Ahead project page, with work expected to continue through November as part of the city's annual concrete maintenance contract. Parking on Olde Orchard Street is banned for the duration.

Drivers heading northbound need to detour. The route runs east on 10 Mile Road to northbound Haggerty Road, then west on Grand River Avenue to loop back to Olde Orchard Street. The city says the detour applies while Olde Orchard is limited to southbound-only traffic during construction.

Two-phase schedule

Crews are tackling one half of the road at a time. In the first phase, workers remove, re-pour and repair concrete panels on one side. That fresh concrete needs seven to nine days to cure before traffic shifts and the second phase begins on the opposite side.

In a Sept. 17 update, the city said the contractor was expected to mobilize soon to begin setting up traffic control and removing concrete panels along the southbound half of Olde Orchard Street.

Access and schedule

The city's project page states that all access points for residents and businesses affected by the work will stay open throughout construction. Property owners will be notified in advance when crews reach their section.

No specific date has been announced for the start of Phase 2 or for the road's full reopening beyond the November target. No project cost has been published. The city's project page also notes that weather and other unforeseen circumstances could shift the timeline.
