The Catholic Central Mothers' Club brought the Novi Police Department's Pink Patrol cruiser to the Detroit Catholic Central High School campus on Wednesday, Oct. 7, for a breast cancer awareness event.
Students, parents and staff at the Novi campus on Wixom Road were invited to sign the pink cruiser and donate to the Believe in Miracles Fund at Henry Ford Providence Novi Hospital. The fund helps cancer patients cover everyday costs such as rent, groceries, transportation and utility bills, according to Henry Ford Health. Every dollar donated goes directly to patients, the school reported, citing the organization.
Donors give $5 or more to sign the cruiser in honor of a loved one affected by breast cancer, according to the city’s announcement.
The Believe in Miracles Fund, overseen by the Providence Foundation, provided assistance to 189 people in 2024, according to Christa Williams, major gifts officer for the Providence Foundation. Williams described the fund's growing demand in an Oct. 7 C&G Newspapers article about the Rock Out at Pink Out 5K at Twelve Mile Crossing.
"Whether it be rent or transportation or groceries or utility bills, we pay those things directly," Williams said in that interview.
The number of people the fund serves has been increasing each year, Williams said. The fund is part of Henry Ford Health's broader network of patient-assistance programs, according to Henry Ford Health.
Residents who missed the Catholic Central event still have three remaining stops listed on the city’s published schedule. The next scheduled stop is Saturday, Oct. 10, at Sam's Club in Novi. Kroger Novi follows on Sunday, Oct. 11. The final stop listed is Downtown Northville's Streets of Treats on Saturday, Oct. 24, where a donation of $5 or more earns a signature spot on the car.
