Northville High School puts its unbeaten record on the line Friday night when the Mustangs host Dearborn Fordson for homecoming at 7 p.m.
Northville enters the game 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association, with the Mustangs outscoring opponents 184-93 through five games.
The buildup stretched across the district Thursday morning, when Northville football players and varsity cheerleaders greeted elementary students at all six Northville Public Schools buildings during drop-off.
Players in orange and black Mustangs jerseys and cheerleaders in uniform lined the sidewalks and entryways at Silver Springs, Ridge Wood, Amerman, Moraine, Thornton Creek and Winchester. The high schoolers offered high-fives and words of encouragement as buses pulled up and parents dropped kids off.
Some elementary students posed for photos with cheerleaders at front doors. Others tossed a football with players before heading inside.
The varsity football team split into groups to cover all six buildings at the same time, according to Northville Public Schools. The district described the visits as part of a tradition connecting students across grade levels.
"Our players and program LOVE to get out in the local schools and community," head coach Brent Luplow said. "We wanted to split up our Varsity team in their jerseys and have them line the entryway to school during morning drop-off to give high fives to the students … and to make them excited for the day, homecoming week, and the game."
Northville's unbeaten start includes a 38-31 double-overtime win over Lake Orion on Aug. 27, a 10-7 road victory at Canton on Sept. 3 and a 52-7 win over rival Novi on Sept. 18. The Mustangs also beat Brighton 35-34 on Sept. 11 and Plymouth 49-14 on Sept. 25.
Northville football released a Week 6 homecoming trailer ahead of Friday’s game, narrated by Dan Miller, the play-by-play voice of the Detroit Lions Radio Network. The post identifies Miller as a Northville resident.
Northville hosts Dearborn Fordson for the homecoming game Friday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. The Mustangs then travel to Belleville on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m.
