Novi Community School District earned the top spot among metro Detroit school districts in Niche's 2027 rankings, receiving an overall A+ grade.

The ranking, reported by Patch on Wednesday, September 30, highlights the district's strength in academics, administration, food, college prep and clubs and activities. Northville Public Schools placed second in the metro Detroit area, followed by Troy School District, Oakland Schools and Rochester Community School District. All five earned A+ grades.

Northville Public Schools also landed in the national top 10 for best school districts, according to the district. Every Northville school earned an A+ from Niche.

Novi High School ranked second among Michigan's best public high schools, behind only International Academy in Oakland Schools, according to a separate Niche ranking of high schools. Detroit Catholic Central High School, located in Novi, placed eighth among the state's best private high schools.

The district has held the No. 1 school district ranking statewide in Michigan for 2024, 2025 and 2026, according to the Novi Community School District website. All schools in the district earned individual A+ ratings from Niche.

The district reports a 95% graduation rate, a 15-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio and 22 Advanced Placement (AP) and 15 International Baccalaureate (IB) courses at the high school level. In 2024, Novi High had 37 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists and 51 National Merit Commended students.

Niche's 2027 rankings analyzed 11,000 school districts, 93,000 public schools and 30,000 private schools nationwide. The methodology draws on U.S. Department of Education data, state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, teacher quality and more than 3 million reviews from students, parents and teachers.

This year, Niche removed SAT and ACT scores from its formula to reflect what the company called a de-emphasis on standardized testing in college admissions.

"Families deserve a complete view of their options, whether they're evaluating schools in their area or exploring what's available elsewhere," Luke Skurman, founder and CEO of Niche, said in announcing the rankings.

SAT data published September 29 found 67.5% of Novi's 11th graders met the college-readiness benchmark, the highest rate in metro Detroit.
