The Novi Police Department is throwing a free cookout at Lakeshore Park on Tuesday, August 4, giving residents a chance to meet the officers who patrol their neighborhoods.
National Night Out runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at the park, located at 601 S. Lake Drive. The city announced the event on X on Tuesday, July 28, promising lawn games, hot dogs, and sweet treats from the Kona Ice Truck. No registration is required.
The evening is part of a nationwide campaign now in its 43rd year that puts police and residents face-to-face in a low-stakes setting. National Night Out is held annually on the first Tuesday in August. Last year's edition drew participation from 18,000 communities across all 50 states, U.S. territories, and military bases worldwide, according to National Night Out organizers.
Lakeshore Park is the largest park in Novi's system, sitting on Walled Lake. The park includes a swimming beach open through Labor Day, walking and mountain bike trails, two playgrounds, and picnic shelters.
The city's post invited families to spend the evening celebrating community. No specific officers or additional activities have been announced beyond the lawn games, food, and Kona Ice.
